Julia Riddell, our 2021 Candidate

I am grateful to be given this opportunity to serve my community. I am a practising clinical psychologist and an assistant professor at the University of Manitoba. I originally became a member of the NDP in 2017. I grew up in Southern Ontario and completed my honours Bachelor of Science in Psychology & Neuroscience with a minor in Peace Studies at McMaster University. During this time, I had the privilege of doing community organizing and volunteering with numerous organizations including the Hamilton Freeskool, the Skydragon Community Centre, the Hamilton Centre for Teaching Peace, and the Victorian Order of Nurses. I completed my Masters and PhD at York University in Toronto, with a focus on doing community-based research that would benefit youth, Indigenous peoples, and those with mental health challenges. I moved to Winnipeg in 2018 to complete my residency and could not imagine a better place to call home. I am passionate about bold climate action, and justice and equality for all.
